The Ministry of Trade has amended the regulation on the jewelry trade. Under the amendment, it is now mandatory to state clearly that the products are synthetic when selling precious stones that are produced in a laboratory or created artificially.

The new rule, which closely concerns the sector, entered into force upon publication in the Official Gazette. For these products, sellers will have to use at least one of the terms "synthetic", "laboratory-grown", "artificially produced" or a similar expression approved by the ministry.

Under the new rule, these terms must appear on labels, product certificates, invoices, websites, and advertising and promotional materials in a way that consumers can easily see. The aim is to make it easier for consumers to tell natural stones apart from stones produced in a laboratory.

The amendment also makes it mandatory to separate synthetic stones from natural precious stones at the point of sale. The products will be displayed in different showcases and sections in stores, and offered under separate categories in online sales.
